About me.
In 2001, with just a hand saw, a small inherited toolbox, and minimal knowledge, I began my first furniture project—two matching 2.4m tall freestanding wardrobes. Ambitious for a beginner to say the least, but to everyone’s surprise I succeeded (despite the struggle of getting them up a narrow staircase!). That project sparked a passion, and after upgrading to a drop saw, I went on to build bedside tables, a desk, and a headboard—each one teaching me more.
In 2004, I enrolled in a part-time woodworking course which helped me learn many useful techniques and numerous methods of joinery. With professional guidance, and the use of quality hand tools, it was to be a crucial part of my development, and fundamental in my woodworking journey.
The original wardrobes stood proudly in my UK home until I sold it in 2021—still in great shape after 20 years, the new owners wanted to keep them!
I spent over 15 years working as a structural engineering technician, but in 2015, my passion for woodworking was reignited through furniture restorations (of which is something I still do). Breathing new life into old pieces deepened my appreciation for sustainability and craftsmanship. By 2019, I took the leap and left my career behind to pursue furniture making full time.
Starting small with simple desks and benches, I steadily embraced more complex joinery and quality timbers, eventually crafting everything from dining tables to chests of drawers. In 2021, I proudly founded Heart and Sap, where each year has brought growth in both skill and the running of the business.
Furniture making has allowed me to channel my perfectionism into something meaningful—designing with intention, sourcing sustainable timber, crafting meticulously, and finishing flawlessly. Heart and Sap reflects everything I believe furniture should entail: Quality, Beauty, Sustainability, and Longevity.
Building my business has not been easy, and I’m deeply grateful to my wife Gabby—for her endless support, creativity, and patience. 2024 brought our biggest joy yet—the birth of our beautiful miracle son. You already light up our lives, and while your path may differ, I hope my journey inspires you in some way.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned: never give up. Even small steps can lead to something incredible and meaningful. Don’t wait. Just start.
